The Prometheus Story
Bristlecone pines can live to be over 5,000 years old and are thought to be the oldest individual living things in the world.
Bristlecone pines are said to be the oldest known living trees. They have many tricks that help them survive, like growing in twisted shapes at high altitude, and an adaptation called "sectored architecture". Sectored architecture means that the tree has roots that feed only the part of the tree directly above them. If one root dies, only the section of the tree above it dies, and the rest of the tree keeps living. You will often see bristlecone pines at high elevations with only one or two living sections, stripes of bark growing on an otherwise skeletal tree. Bristlecone pines can endure a lot.
In the summer of 1964, a geographer by the name of Donald R. Currey was doing research on ice age glaciology in the moraines of Wheeler Peak. He was granted permission from the United States Forest Service to take core samples from numerous bristlecone pines growing in a grove beneath Wheeler Peak, so he could try to find the age of the glacial features those trees were growing on top of. Currey was studying the different widths of the rings inside these bristlecone pines, which were believed to be over 4,000 years old, to determine patterns of good and bad growing seasons in the past. Because of their old age, these trees act as climatic vaults, storing thousands of years of weather data within their rings. This method of research is valuable to the study of climate change.
Currey found a tree in this grove he believed to be well over 4,000 years old. This tree was known by local mountaineers as Prometheus. There are several accounts of how Prometheus met its end. Some say Currey's increment borer, the tool used to take core samples, broke off in the tree. Others say he did not know how to core such a large tree, or that the borer was too short. Yet others say Currey felt he needed a full cross section to better examine the rings of the tree. We may never know the true story of what happened to Prometheus, but we do know one thing for certain: Currey had permission from the Forest Service to have the tree cut down. Counting the rings later revealed that Prometheus contained 4,862 growth rings. Due to the harsh conditions these trees grow in, it is likely that a growth ring did not form every year. Therefore, Prometheus was estimated to be 4,900 years old, the oldest known tree of its time. At the time, Prometheus was the oldest tree ever dated, the runner-up being a bristlecone pine in the White Mountains of California. It was only 4,847 years old. It wasn't until 2012 that an older tree was found - another bristlecone in the same area, proved to be 5,065 years old. There is a good chance there are older bristlecone pines that have not yet been dated.
According to ancient Greek myths, Prometheus was an immortal who brought fire (a symbol of knowledge) to humans. Prometheus the bristlecone pine also imparted a lot of knowledge to humans. Information gained by studying this significant tree added to the knowledge of carbon dating (which is valuable to archeologists and paleontologists) and climate data. Bristlecone pines are now protected on federal lands.
The stump of Prometheus is all that remains of the ancient tree within the grove. If you would like to travel through history by counting the rings of Prometheus, you can do so at the Great Basin Visitor Center.

8.16 Remember the Titans
Walking along a street in Great Falls, Montana, Prometheus is hit by a driver who falls asleep at the wheel after drinking too much and dies. The next morning, a deputy finds his dead body with the eagle eating his liver and when the deputy goes to call his death in, Prometheus comes back to life and leaves.
The next day, Sam and Dean investigate his death and resurrection, believing him to be a zombie. By that time, Prometheus has died again of a grizzly bear attack and is in the morgue when they arrive. Prometheus awakens and Sam and Dean force him to come with them at gunpoint.
At their motel, Prometheus explains his history and asks if they kill him, to do it permanently as he is tired of the cycle of death and rebirth. That night, while he is sleeping, Artemis attacks him with a dagger capable of permanently killing him, but a confused Prometheus manages to fight her off. When he asks who she is, she tells him that she is his worst nightmare before disappearing. Soon afterwards. Prometheus dies again of a heart attack.
The next morning, Prometheus comes back to life and is surprised to find Hayley there with his son Oliver who's existence he was unaware of. Sam and Dean have discovered who he really is and explain it to him, but before they can take him and his family to the Bunker for safety, Oliver dies and they realize that he has the same curse as Prometheus.
The group travels to the Bunker where they learn how to summon and kill Zeus, in an attempt to force him to break the curse so that Prometheus and his son can live normal lives. Hayley has trouble accepting the truth about Prometheus and the group researches Zeus. Dean finds the journal of an ancient Greek hunter named Dracopolis who managed to trap Zeus and learned how to kill him. The group learns how to do the same and Prometheus and Sam set out to get the bone of someone who still worships Zeus for a summoning spell.
Prometheus and Sam dig the grave of a pagan and Prometheus questions Sam on why he is helping him. Sam questions why he saved humanity in the first place, but he couldn't remember why. Sam tells him his actions saved the world, but Prometheus says it wouldn't matter unless he saves his son.
At a warehouse, Sam and Dean summon and trap Zeus and ask him to break the curse on Oliver. Zeus only agrees to do it if they break the trap and tricks Hayley into breaking it. Instead of breaking the curse, Zeus stuns Prometheus, Sam and Dean with a blast of electricity and revels in the fact that Prometheus has a child afflicted by the same curse as him. Zeus plans to have Prometheus suffer through his son's death forever and feel that pain as a greater form of revenge. Zeus summons Artemis who stops Sam and Dean from killing him and has her take them away while he tortures Prometheus. After beating up and blasting Prometheus repeatedly, Zeus prepares to kill Oliver in front of Prometheus, but Artemis intervenes and demands Zeus release everyone. When he refuses, Artemis shoots an arrow capable of killing Zeus at him, but he pulls Prometheus in front of the arrow, mortally wounding him. As Zeus taunts him about enjoying watching Prometheus die over and over and planning to chain Oliver to the mountain to take his place, Prometheus pushes the arrow through himself and into Zeus, killing him in a blast of electricity. Prometheus dies permanently and Artemis mourns his death briefly before leaving with Zeus' body.
Prometheus' sacrifice breaks the curse on Oliver who is now free to live a normal life. Sam and Dean take his body into the woods and give him a Hunter's Funeral.

API Queries and consoles
HTTP requests contain the client IP, the method, and the path:
The path will contain the web prefix if it is set, and can also point to a console.
The client IP is the network IP address and does not take into consideration the headers like X-Forwarded-For . If you wish to log the original caller behind a proxy, you need to do so in the proxy itself.
Recording rules and alerts
Recording rules and alerts contain a ruleGroup element which contains the path of the file and the name of the group:
When does it fit?
Prometheus works well for recording any purely numeric time series. It fits both machine-centric monitoring as well as monitoring of highly dynamic service-oriented architectures. In a world of microservices, its support for multi-dimensional data collection and querying is a particular strength.
Prometheus is designed for reliability, to be the system you go to during an outage to allow you to quickly diagnose problems. Each Prometheus server is standalone, not depending on network storage or other remote services. You can rely on it when other parts of your infrastructure are broken, and you do not need to setup extensive infrastructure to use it.
These Engineers appear on Earth and LV223 and are similiar to the space 'Jockey' from LV426.
Engineers from LV223 tried returning to Earth in their spacecraft only to be wiped out by a release of their bio-weapons, killing all except for a lone Engineer, who entered a stasis unit in the Derelict's Orrery.
There are 4 Engineers in the film
and one named as 'Elder' who was in a larger group that appeared on Earth with the Sacrifice when he gave up his life so life could begin on planet Earth.
Sacrifice-gives up his life in a ceremony that involved consuming some of the liquid from an urn.
Ghost-as part of a holo integrated message, Engineers are seen as a hologram at events that occur in the Alien Temple.
Last-as the survivor of the liquid from the Urns, this Engineer is in his Sarcophagus and is awakened by the crew of Prometheus as they enter the Derelict's Orrery.
In 2089 archaeologists Elizabeth Shaw and Charlie Holloway interpret a Star Map as an invitation from humanity’s forerunners. Peter Weyland - the elderly CEO of Weyland Corporation - funds the creation of the scientific vessel USCSS Prometheus to follow the map to the distant LV223. The ship's crew travels in stasis while the android David monitors their voyage. Arriving in 2093, they are informed of their mission to find the Engineers.
The Engineers are among the oldest extraterrestrial life, they have no clear origin but possess among the most advanced technology in the galaxy. This technology has made them masters of genetic engineering, seeding many primordial celestial bodies with life. The Engineers are equipped Bio-spacesuits and Bio-masks. These give them the ability to perform FTL and space travel as well as cgiving them increased life spans. They don't defend them from their biological weapons which end up killing all but the Last Engineer on LV223.
Prometheus is first mentioned in Episode 69 by Aphrodite, after Eros tells her that she didn't have to seduce Zeus for him. Aphrodite replies that he should have a chat with Prometheus about Zeus' punishments.
Prometheus is mentioned again in Episode 127 by Thetis, who excitedly tells Minthe that she believes Zeus will make an example of Persephone just like he did to Prometheus. Prometheus is then pictured as Thanatos imagines his suffering and feels worried that they went too far.
Prometheus Hi (Ancient Greek Προμηθεύς "Forethinker") is a Titan of Greek mythology, the son of Iapetus and Themis, and brother to Atlas, Epimetheus and Menoetius. A Trickster figure, he was a champion of mankind known for his wily intelligence, who stole fire from Zeus and the gods and gave it to mortals. Zeus then punished him for his crime by having him bound to a rock while a great eagle (or vulture) ate his liver every day only to have it grow back to be eaten again the next day. The Greek derivation of Prometheus from the Greek pro (before) + manthano (learn) and the agent suffix -eus, thus "Forethinker", which engendered a contrasting brother Epimetheus ("Afterthinker"), has been disputed by some linguists who believe that the name comes from the Proto-Indo-European root which also produces the Vedic pra math, "to steal," hence pramathyu-s, "thief", whence "Prometheus", the thief of fire. The Vedic myth of fire's theft by Mātariśvan (Agni) is analogous to the account found in Greek myth and to these etymological cognates, can be added pramantha, the tool used to create fire.
XX, Kafka face o scurtă analiză a mitului.
The complete Alien timeline, from Prometheus to Alien: Resurrection
While Ridley Scott's sequel to Alien: Covenant is apparently on indefinite hold, the timeline for the franchise is open-ended.
It's getting quite complicated in there, so we've put together a handy year-by-year (or millennium-by-millennium) guide to Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, Alien, Aliens, Alien³ and Alien Resurrection so you won't be too confused by the time the next sequel/prequel arrives.
And, for completists, we've also mentioned the Alien vs Predator movies (sorry about that). Here's the story so far for the Alien franchise.
4 billion - 2 million BC &ndash An alien race, later dubbed "The Engineers", visit Earth and leave one of their own behind. His body breaks down after he drinks black goo, and his DNA enters the water, recombining to create life.
35,000 BC &ndash Evidence of the Engineers in Scotland.
3590 BC &ndash Sumerian evidence of Engineers' visit to Earth.
2470 BC &ndash Egyptian evidence of Engineers' visit to Earth.
1540 BC &ndash Babylonian evidence of Engineers' visit to Earth.
8th century BC &ndash the Prometheus myth (about a Titan who brought man to life from clay and stole the secret of fire from the Gods) first appears in Greek mythology.
620 BC &ndash Mayan evidence of Engineers' visit to Earth.
1st century AD &ndash The Engineers prepare a "death ship", filled with jars of black goo, to send to Earth in order to destroy their wayward children, humanity. (The decapitated Engineer found by the Prometheus crew on LV-223 was carbon-dated to 2,000 years before, "give or take".)
1990 &ndash Peter Weyland, the man who will create the Weyland Corp, is born.
2004 &ndash Aliens and Predators do stuff. Together. If you've seen the AvP films, then you'll know it's best we move on.
2012 &ndash Peter Weyland founds Weyland Corp, the company behind so many doomed space missions.
2023 &ndash Weyland gives a TED Talk, see below.
Around 2030 &ndash Weyland creates David, an android (played by Michael Fassbender in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant).
2080s &ndash Dr Elizabeth Shaw and Dr Charlie Holloway discover evidence of "star maps" from Babylonian, Sumerian, Mayan, Egyptian and Mesopotamian eras.
2089 &ndash Shaw discovers another star map, or "invitation", in a cave on the Isle of Skye, Scotland.
2091 &ndash The USCSS Prometheus, a space exploration ship built by Weyland Corp, leaves Earth on its journey to LV-223.
2092 &ndash Ellen Ripley is born on Earth. (January 7, to be precise.)
2093 &ndash All but two of the USCSS Prometheus crew are killed after an encounter on LV-223 with an alien species and a revived Engineer. The ship is destroyed and Dr Shaw and a severely damaged David leave on an Engineer ship to find the Engineers' homeworld.
2094 &ndash Shaw presumably rebuilds David, and according to David's testimony in Alien: Covenant, he and Shaw arrive at "Paradise", a planet home to millions of Engineers. He uses their ship's toxic black-goo payload to destroy the entire population.
2104 &ndash Covenant, a colonisation ship carrying thousands of humans and embryos, takes a detour to an unnamed planet (Paradise) on its way to Origae-6. There the crew discover David and a new species, the neomorph.
After the incursion on the planet, where the majority of the crew are killed, David is revealed to have bio-engineered aliens as we know them. He brings their embryos on board alongside the human embryos. The ship continues its journey to Origae-6.
*Mystery era, which a Covenant sequel would presumably occupy*
2120 &ndash Space vessel Nostromo leaves Earth.
2122 &ndash After detecting a signal, Nostromo lands on planetoid LV-426. After being infected by an alien face-hugger, executive officer Kane (played by John Hurt in Alien) dies when an alien bursts through his chest. It picks off the crew one by one, leaving Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and Jones, the ship's cat, alive.
2179 &ndash After drifting in stasis for 57 years, Ripley is rescued but returns to LV-426 because contact with the new human colony there, Hadley's Hope, has been lost.
Arriving with a military squad, they find the sole human survivor, Newt, more face-huggers, a swarm of aliens and a pretty badass Queen. Ripley escapes with Newt, Corporal Hicks (Michael Biehn) and android Bishop (Lance Henriksen), and heads back to Earth in the Sulaco.
There must be at least two face-huggers on board, though, and as they sleep one impregnates Ripley with a queen. A fire starts somehow and the humans' life pod ejects, landing near a penal colony on Fiorina 161. Only Ripley and one other facehugger survive. Ripley kills the resulting alien, then dies by suicide by jumping into a furnace.
2379 &ndash The United Systems Military clone Ripley (and her bio-passenger) from medical samples saved from Fiorina 161. They surgically remove the alien queen in order to breed the species, which escape on board the Auriga, killing many. Auriga crashes into Earth's atmosphere and blows up. The Ripley clone, meanwhile, escapes aboard the Betty with the android Call.

Bay on Earth [ edit | edit source ]
Elevator shack gives access to the subterranean bay.
Prometheus sat in a subterranean bay in Nevada (Area 37-92/NV) where she was assembled and maintained. She was held in place with large docking clamps. Access to the subterranean bay was given through an elevator housed in a shack surrounded by an electric fence. The ship entered and exited through large retractable roof doors
Prometheus' maiden voyage was a result of a hijacking by rogue NID agents working with Colonel Frank Simmons and the Goa'uld in Adrian Conrad. They felt that it was easier to just steal her than to gain access to the Stargate. Even though she was not complete on the inside, Prometheus performed extremely well on her first flight and proved her space-worthiness.
